Assistants must be able to tolerate cold for up to two hours at a time, as work areas can range from 58-64 degrees. These positions require the ability to work at a computer for an extended period of time, to lift and carry heavy books (up to 20 pounds), to push fully loaded book trucks, and to climb ladders, with or without assistance. Tasks typically include removing items from shelves and loading them onto book trucks, pushing book trucks, adding a barcode flag to a book, updating the barcode information in the library system, and other related activities.
This is a part time hourly-paid position. Assistants will be expected to work 8-20 hours per week through January 31st , with some flexibility around holidays. Assistants will be able to select work hours each week, but work must take place between 9am-4pm on Monday-Friday.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume. In their cover letter, applicants should briefly report on an example of work or a project they have undertaken that demonstrates their exceptional level of attention to detail. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through the end of November 2019, or until all positions are filled. No phone calls please. The Folger is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
