If you are a library science student with an interest in health information, I encourage you to consider joining the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MAC/MLA). MAC/MLA is very active, and includes librarians and library students from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, North Carolina, and Western Pennsylvania who work with health professionals, health professions students, and health consumers.
A Student Membership in MAC/MLA offers many benefits for an investment of only $10.00 a year.
You will find that being part of MAC/MLA is an efficient way to keep up with all the developments in health information. MAC’s diverse members engage in many types of networking opportunities and communication outlets to share best practices with one another. Membership in the chapter offers unique opportunities for professional development through interactions with your colleagues in the region. The MAC Messages Blog, keeps you abreast of events and trends, as well as updates on continuing education opportunities (many of which are free to members) and job openings in the region.
The MAC Membership Directory provides easy access to colleagues, and the MACMLA-L email discussion list provides a means to network with colleagues. The annual MAC conferences provide relevant, high-quality speakers, networking opportunities, and additional affordable continuing education offerings. This year the conference will take place October 20-25, 2017 in Staunton, VA. Additionally, any MAC/MLA Student member attending an ALA-accredited MLS or MIS program may apply for the MAC Student Vision Scholarship, which provides funding to attend the annual MAC conference.
Again, I would like to encourage you to join us in MAC/MLA. Exploring the MAC website is a great way to learn more about our members and the work of the association. If you have any questions about MAC/MLA, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
