Assistant Librarian for Technical Services
This is a professional position that reports to the Director of the Library of the Pontifical Faculty of
the Immaculate Conception. The Assistant Librarian for Technical Services performs descriptive
and subject cataloging, and classification of both original and copy cataloging, requiring the
exercise of independent professional judgment. This is a salaried, full-time position with benefits.
Salary is comparable to the position for a non-profit Roman Catholic graduate college with a
Catalogs all library materials in the collection regardless of language or format; ensures accuracy
and compliance with standards for bibliographic control by obtaining cataloging information from
computer databases and standard bibliographic tools for original cataloging, and sometimes adapts
information for our own catalog; creates new, or modifies, MARC records or RDA records;
processes new materials and does bibliographic maintenance; deletes dated, lost, or completely
damaged materials from the system; collaborates in the maintenance of the integrated library system
and interoperability with other bibliographic databases; participates in occasional reference desk
staffing and instructs users in the principles of information literacy; performs additional duties as
Work in a library environment requires sustained posture in a standing or seated position for
prolonged periods of time, perform lifting, crouching or pushing.
Desired knowledge, experience, and qualifications:
1. Master’s of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited college or university with an emphasis
on cataloging or any equivalent combination of education and/or training that provides the required
knowledge, skills and abilities as approved by the Director.
2. Familiarity with one or more integrated library systems (preferably OCLC WSMS), excellent written
and verbal communication skills.
3. A cultivated interest in Catholic theology, Church history or philosophy.
4. Willingness to serve and support the mission of the PFIC.
5. Ability to deal cooperatively with others and be reliable and self-motivated.
