Teen Services Assistant – Loudoun County Public Library – Loudoun County, VA


Position is currently located at the Cascades Library, but location is subject to change at any time based on LCPL operational needs. This recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies at any LCPL location.

Loudoun County Public Library — a nationally recognized, award-winning library system — has an immediate opening for a part-time (20 hrs/wk) Library Assistant. LCPL is looking for energetic, creative, tech-savvy people with a passion for providing exceptional customer service to join our team as a Children’s, Adult, or Teen Library Assistant. We seek enthusiastic team players with excellent communication skills, knowledge of emerging technologies and dedication to customer service.

Teen Assistants work five hours every Friday night at the Afterhours Teen Center at Cascades Library, which is open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The successful candidate will assist with planning and conducting programs for children, teen or adult audiences. The candidate will also assist customers of all ages by providing direct customer service in reference, reader’s advisory and circulation functions, and guide customers on the use of a wide array of library resources and technologies. Strong multi-tasking, customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. LCPL provides services 7 days a week including Friday and Saturday nights. Work schedule will vary and will include weekends, evenings and holidays.


Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. One year prior experience providing direct customer service to the public is strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office products also preferred.


Ability to lift books and other materials and move heavy book carts. Some bending and stooping required. Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred.


Successful candidate will undergo a criminal background check.
