Research and Instruction INTERNSHIInternship – Loyola Notre Dame Library, Baltimore, MD

Internship Description The Research and Instruction unit at Loyola ▪ Notre Dame Library (Baltimore, MD) will offer a current MLS student an opportunity to gain experience in assessing virtual reference services as well as an understanding of the work at a medium-sized academic library. The Intern will complete 120 hours, which can be completed in-person, virtually, or in a blended format. The Intern will report to the Research Services and Innovation Librarian. 

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in research services, UX, and online learning. 


  • Chat Transcript Analysis (80 hours) 

o Assist with analyzing textual exchanges between librarians and users o Analyze metadata from transcripts to identify usage patterns 

  • FAQ Design (20 hours) 

o Develop bank of users’ frequently asked questions based on analysis findings 

  • Web Design (20 hours) 

o Recommend updates or improvement to online Library resources and tutorials based on  analysis findings 


  • Current MLS student 
  • Interest in learning about research, instruction, and library procedures at a medium-sized academic library 
  • Previous or concurrent course work in assessment, information literacy, or reference preferred but not required 

About the Library The Loyola Notre Dame Library (LNDL), located in northern Baltimore City serves Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University. It is a member of the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI). The library serves as an integral part of the campuses by providing information services and resources to support the academic programs and educational concerns of the two institutions.
