The University of Virginia University Library seeks a Reference Librarian for the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. The position of Reference Librarian directly supports the academic and scholarly initiatives of University faculty, students, staff, and researchers by providing collection-based liaison relationships, consultations, and course-related support for research projects. Primarily responsible for managing the Public Services desk in Special Collections, the Reference Librarian provides excellent service and convenient and timely access to collections.
The Reference Librarian:
-guides users in how to use finding aids and bibliographic tools and by knowing the content of collections;
-provides security for the collections and teaches users proper handling of the collections;
-helps users with digital reproduction needs;
-handles online reference and manages an orderly, quiet Reading Room;
-establishes circulation policies and user services protocols;
-develops and delivers task-specific training to student assistants in the public services unit and writes training or procedural documentation.
