The Enoch Pratt Free Library is searching for qualified and experienced Librarians to fill several Librarian II positions for the State Library Resource Center (SLRC) Division. The departments currently in need are African American, Fine Arts, Humanities, and Maryland.

This is an intermediate level position that requires a commitment to public service and an awareness of the information needs of a large, urban, public library system. Included in this position is the opportunity to serve on Library committees, attend professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.

The Librarian II reports directly to the department manager.

 Summary of Duties:
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.

Develop, plan, and present programs and activities in a specialized subject for Library customers and staff in Maryland libraries.

Evaluate and recommend selection of either general or subject/age specialized materials. Provide research, reference, and reader’s advisory assistance for walk-in, telephone, or electronic customers or referral to the appropriate departments or collections.

Assist library computer customers, teaching basic computer and internet research skills.

Interpret library rules and policies for customers.

Collection maintenance, recommending discards of obsolete or damaged books and materials.

Serve as the assistant to the department manager; serve as manager in the absence of the department manager. Supervise and evaluate performance of support staff. Recommend disciplinary action as necessary.

Monitor the collection of activity data and assist in the formulation of weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
Participate in continuing education activities as required and in maintenance of state librarian certification activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.
 Minimum Qualifications:
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited college or university. Two years librarian experience. Intermediate automated library systems, electronic databases and internet research skills. Intermediate Microsoft Office skills. Comfort with planning and executing training and public speaking.

Desired Qualifications:

Two years public librarian experience. One year library supervisory experience. A subject interest or specialty.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of library science principles, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of a subject or age-level specialized topic. Excellent Internet and electronic research skills. Excellent library customer service skills. Ability to provide specialized research information to library customers. Ability to assign, review, and correct work of support library and office staff. Ability to work in a library team setting and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and management, library customers, and the general public. Ability to work a public service schedule that includes evening, Saturday and Sunday hours. Microsoft Office and database skills.

Drug & Alcohol Testing

Position of Trust

Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.

Enoch Pratt Free Central Library Renovation

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is excited to announce a major renovation of the Central library to begin in 2015. The Central library will remain open throughout the renovation and continue to provide full patron services.
