Serials Unit
The Pratt Library is accepting applications for a Librarian II for the Collections and Access Services Division in the Serials Unit.
The Serials Librarian manages magazine and journal subscriptions in all formats for the Enoch Pratt Free Library system, which consists of a Central Library, 22 branches, and 2 bookmobiles.  The position is based in the Collection Management Department and reports to the Manager of the Technical Services Unit.  The Central Library serves as the State Library Resource Center (SLRC) as well as the downtown branch of the Pratt Library, and the selection of resources reflects and supports the mission of both.
 Summary of Duties:
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department/division.
Manages a collection of approximately 2,200 active subscriptions for print, electronic and microform serials.

Oversees the creation and maintenance of serials check-in records using the Serials Control module of the SirsiDynix ILS.

Serves as the liaison to serials vendor(s), evaluating and monitoring performance and recommending changes as needed.


Supervises the claiming of overdue serials and the processing of invoices and renewals.


Creates bibliographic records for serials titles and maintains holdings in the library’s online catalog and A-Z list.


Supervises one support staff member in the day-to-day operations of the Serials Unit, including training, mentoring, goal setting, and evaluation.


Works closely with the Periodicals Librarian and Branch Managers to ensure timely ordering and fulfillment of subscriptions to multiple locations.


Participates in departmental planning and goal setting and recommends strategies, policies, and procedures to improve serials acquisition, delivery, promotion, and usage.


Maintains skills and knowledge through continuing education opportunities and participation in local, regional, and/or national professional activities.
 Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. One year of library experience (Serials and/or Cataloging preferred). Knowledge of current trends in serials publishing and acquisition
Desired Qualifications
Supervisory experience.  Familiarity with subscription management systems (EBSCONET, ProQuest 360 Core). Familiarity with MARC records and Integrated Library Systems (SirsiDynix preferred). Experience in a public library and/or urban setting serving a diverse user population.  Genuine curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.). Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for existing & emerging technologies. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, verbally and in writing, with customers and colleagues. Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

Enoch Pratt Free Central Library Renovation
The Enoch Pratt Free Library is excited to announce a major renovation of the Central library slated to begin in 2015. The Central library will remain open throughout the renovation and continue to provide full patron services.
