DDOT Internship Program, Research, Development, & Technology Transfer Program – Howard University, Washington, DC

Project # 1: DDOT Current Photos Organization
DDOT is currently in possession of 18,000+ photos from events over the past several years, which are organized only by location and/or event. Our Communications team has asked us to organize these photos, clean up duplicates, come up with a metadata schema, and potentially upload the photographs into our DDOT Back in Time site

Project # 2: Archival finding aid project:
We are also undertaking a project to make our archival documents more organized and accessible to both employees and the public. The intern will create basic finding aids for our historic archival documents (which are already inventoried and arranged into collections) which will eventually be uploaded to our OPAC for employee and public viewing. The project has already begun and there are guidelines from the previous intern laid out, so the new intern would be able to follow these. The intern would also select items in these collections that might be candidates for digitization

Project # 3: Map Scanning Project
We have several boxes of historical maps that need to be scanned and put into our DDOT Back in Time site.

The intern will also assist with various day to day library needs, including but not limited to:

  • Shelving materials in Library of Congress call number order
  • Assisting with daily reference requests/use our OPAC
  • Assisting with the library’s social media
