On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, ALA announced its Class of 2015 Emerging Leaders (EL). Out of 50 individuals selected for the program, CUA has a total of two (former and recent) students on the list: Anita Kinney and Angela Kent.
Anita Kinney, a current MSLIS candidate and Angela Kent, a recent (2014) MSLIS graduate were chosen for EL by various ALA selection committees. Ms. Kinney and Ms Kent, will participate in ALA Midwinter 2015 in Chicago and ALA Annual 2015 in San Francisco. Their duties will include “orientation and training” at the Midwinter conference, followed by six months of “online learning and networking”, that leads to a poster session at ALA Annual. They may also receive an opportunity to “serve on an ALA, division, chapter, round table, or affiliate committee or workgroup upon completion.”
“The program is designed to enable library staff and information workers to participate in project planning workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers.” It has been “very successful,” according ALA Past-President and program facilitator and subcommittee co-chair, Maureen Sullivan because it has “enabled a number of very talented new professionals to assume leadership positions in ALA at earlier career stage.”
Congratulations to the two of them, and a pat on our back for honing such remarkable information professionals.
