Assistant Archivist – United States Naval Academy – Annapolis, MD

The United States Naval Academy invites applications for the position of Assistant Archivist in the Special Collections and Archives Department of Nimitz Library. Located on the Severn River in historic Annapolis, Maryland, the Naval Academy is a Middle States-accredited, top-tier liberal arts college and service academy with demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.

The Special Collections and Archives (SC&A) Department  is one of nine affiliated archives of the National Archives and Records Administration and possesses an outstanding collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs and other documents. With its range of rare and unique materials, SC&A is an essential resource for study and research at USNA and beyond.

Reporting to the Naval Academy Archivist and Head of SC&A, the Assistant Archivist will develop the department’s system of maintaining electronic records; ensure that the Naval Academy’s retention schedule is followed; arrange and describe records in both digital and analog format; create descriptive aids for those records; and provide general and specialized research assistance related to all materials in SC&A.
