Title: Archival Consultant/Project Manager (Summer Temp.)

Education/Experience: Master’s degree preferred with certification in Archival Studies, Library Science, or Public History, Bachelors required.

Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday from June 18, 2018 through September 30, 2018. Can be flexible with hours upon negotiation.

Supervision: This position will manage up to 3 interns.

Description of Project:

The National Theatre has a vast collection of over 10,000 items dating back to when the theatre first opened in 1835. The collection has mostly remained untouched, with a few efforts to catalogue and start a database over the years. The National Theatre hopes to invest some resources into the preservation and conservation of the collection while planning for possible use of the items in the future. Some ideas include a searchable database for academic research and interactive displays for patrons of the theatre.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Archival Consultant/Project Manager will design and oversee a detailed plan to guide The National Theatre in its preservation and conservation of the collection. Additionally, the Archival Consultant/Project Manager will provide expertise on guidelines for digitalization and steps to open the collection for academic research and interactive displays for patrons to the theatre. This is a unique opportunity to start an archival project and oversee its initial stages.

Responsibilities include designing guidelines and necessary actions based on the condition of the collection, researching best equipment to meet the needs for creating digital copies and updating video and audio recordings, supervising and training up to three interns over the summer to assist in cataloguing materials and updating the database, and advising The National Theatre staff on future steps to utilize the Archives in the future.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and creative thinker. The right person will be highly organized and detail oriented, has some experience with supervising and training others. Candidates must be able to move boxes up to 50lbs and may be required to stand for extended periods of time. Written and verbal communication is required. Employment will be contingent upon a successful background
