April King (MSLS 2002), branch manager of the Palisades Public Library, is the 2012 recipient of the DC Library Association (DCLA) Distinguished Service Award. April is serving her second term as one of two elected directors on the DCLA Board. The nomination noted that April “always volunteers for the not-so-glamorous jobs and does it with a smile.” April joined the DC Public Library 12 years ago as a computer instructor, and later became a youth librarian, an outreach librarian, and the branch manager of the Southeast Neighborhood Library.
Richard MacKinnon (MSLS 1995) is helping his father, a retired Navy Admiral, to write his memoirs, which will cover many interesting adventures over a long, fulfilling career. Richard noted: “I think everyone should do this, no matter their life station. I hope to help others do the same. I know there is a great need for this service.”
Jennie Meade (MSLS 1988) has been elected vice chair/chair-elect of the Legal History and Rare Books Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries.
Bruce Rosenstein (MSLS 1987) is one of two 2012 recipients of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Rose L. Vormelkar Award. The award is presented to SLA members for exceptional service to the information profession through the education and mentoring of students and working professionals.
