Alumna wins award at ALA Annual, and selects CUA LIS for scholarship donation

Every year the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) presents their coveted Margaret Mann Citation award to an individual with outstanding professional achievement in cataloging or classification. The winner receives a citation, and OCLC donates a scholarship to the U.S. or Canadian library school of the winner’s choice.

This year’s Margaret Mann Citation award recipient is CUA LIS alumna, Magda El-Sherbini, and she has graciously chosen The Catholic University of America’s Library and Information Science program to receive the $1000 scholarship.

The ALCTS Awards Ceremony and Membership Meeting was held in June during the 2015 American Library Association Annual Conference in San Francisco. On hand to accept the award was CUA’s School of Arts and Sciences Dean, Dr. Claudia Bornholdt.

We are honored, and on behalf of the rest of the CUA LIS community, thank you Ms. El Sherbini, ALCTS, and OCLC for the wonderful gift! It will support the endeavors of our graduate students as they continue to serve the community and make significant impacts in the LIS profession – much like Ms. El Sherbini.

Currently, Magda El-Sherbini is the Head of The Ohio State University Libraries’ Cataloging Department. “In this capacity, she oversees the Department’s cataloging activities. She supervises the department’s four cataloging units as well as four faculty members and their respective staffs. In addition to her administrative duties, Ms. El-Sherbini serves on numerous library committees, is the author of numerous library publications, and continues to be active in the American Library Association.”
