ACRL Communication Workshop on April 19 @ 9AM!

Dear Students,

The University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Library Consortium will be hosting an ACRL workshop on April 19th: “Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement” (http://www.ala.org/acrl/issues/scholcomm/roadshow). The workshop will be held at Towson University, which is located in an area a few miles northwest of downtown Baltimore.

USMAI is offering our department the opportunity to send five students to attend the conference with free registration. Our department will provide transportation-related support for five students to attend this valuable education opportunity.

The event will begin at 9:00 AM and end by 4:00 PM, so it would be feasible for students to carpool and commute to/from the event on the same day. Alternatively, the MARC train service to downtown Baltimore plus a taxi ride to Towson could also be very affordable.

Students are encouraged to e-mail self-nominations to Dr. Ingrid Hsieh-Yee by Feb. 23 for consideration. The nomination should include the following information

  • Use “ACRL Scholarly Communication Workshop” in the Subject line

  • A statement on the student’s interest in the ACRL workshop and how it relates to the student’s career goals

  • An unofficial transcript of courses completed at CUA

Department Co-Chairs, Dr. John Convey and Dr. Ingrid Hsieh-Yee, will select students for this program. Selected students will be notified by March 1. Workshop attendees from CUA will provide a summary of their workshop experience to share with the LIS community at CUA.

Please feel free to contact Dr. Hsieh-Yee at hsiehyee@cua.edu if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Ingrid Hsieh-Yee
